Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp (Big Tree Camp)

After park formalities at Londorossi Gate, begin trekking through dense rainforest. Keep an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys and exotic birds. Reach Mti Mkubwa Camp for your first night on the mountain.

After a transfer from Moshi to Rongai Gate, the trek begins through farmland and forested trails. The path gradually ascends into open moorland, offering a quiet and scenic introduction to the northern side of Kilimanjaro. Overnight at Simba Camp near the forest edge.

Climb out of the forest and into open heath. Today’s trail includes a steep ridge before leveling out onto the Shira Plateau. Camp at Shira 1 with wide views toward Kibo and Mount Meru.

Today is crucial for acclimatization. You’ll ascend to Lava Tower for lunch (high point: 4,600 m), then descend to Barranco Camp, nestled at the foot of the Barranco Wall.

Climb the dramatic Barranco Wall—a fun scramble with views of glaciers above and valleys below. Traverse ridges to reach Karanga Camp, an essential acclimatization point.

A short ascent to Barafu Camp, your final base before summit night. Rest early after a hot dinner. Gear and mindset are prepared for your midnight summit attempt.

Begin your trek by torchlight toward Stella Point, then onward to Uhuru Peak—the top of Africa. After celebrating your success, descend to Barafu, then continue to Mweka Camp for a well-earned sleep.
