  Getting There

– Most climbers arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), ~45–60 min from Moshi.

– Transfers: AFRILION provides private pickup/drop from JRO.

– Optional: Fly into Arusha (ARK)  or Dar es Salaam (DAR). though less convenient.

 

   Pre/Post-Climb Accommodation

– Includes 2 nights in Moshi (pre- and post-climb).

– Partner hotels feature hot water, Wi‑Fi, laundry, secure luggage storage.

 

  Mountain Camps & Huts

– Camping routes: spacious expedition tents, mess tents, private toilet tents, foam mattresses.

– Marangu route: hut-based accommodation with bunk beds and shared facilities.

– Bring a 4‑season sleeping bag or use AFRILION rentals.

 

  Meals

– Three hot meals per day, including soups, pasta, vegetables, meats, fruits, and snacks.

– Special diets (vegetarian, gluten-free, halal) available on request.

 

  Health & Altitude Safety

– Guides perform daily oximeter checks, monitoring oxygen and heart rate.

 

  Luggage & Porter Policy

– Duffel (≤15 kg) carried by porters.

– You carry only essentials in a 20–30 L daypack.

– Unused gear stored securely at the hotel  

 

 Guides & Team

– Mountain guides are KNP-certified and wilderness first aid trained.

– Porters are well-equipped and receive fair compensation and training.

 

  Connectivity

– On mountain: little to no cell signal until higher (Shira, Barafu).

– Guides carry radios; satellite phones available for emergencies.

 

  Money & Tipping

– Currency: Tanzanian Shilling (TZS); USD widely accepted.

– ATMs available in Moshi/Arusha.

– Suggested tipping per climber per 7-day trek:

  – Guides: $15–20/day  

  – Assistants: $10–15/day  

  – Cooks: $10–15/day  

  – Porters: $6–10/day

– AFRILION can assist with tip pooling.

 

  Power & Charging

– Voltage in Tanzania: 230 V, UK-style plugs.

– Bring a universal adapter, power bank or solar charger.

– No electrical outlets on the trail.

 

  Best Travel Seasons

– Dry seasons:

  – Jan–Mar: cooler, quieter  

  – Jun–Oct: drier, popular, ideal for summits

– Rain seasons: Avoid April–May (long rain), Nov (short rain).
